Sony makes its WH-1000XM5 headphones compatible with “head-tracking”

Thanks to an update, Sony’s WH-1000XM5 headphones now support head tracking. In addition, it is also possible to use the LDAC codec at the same time as the multipoint connection.

The new WF-1000XM5 headphones have barely been released when Sony is rolling out an update bringing new features to its WH-1000XM5 headphones. Firmware version 2.0.2 brings head movement tracking. As a reminder, this function fixes the soundstage in front of the listener in order to reproduce a listening experience close to what can be found in the cinema or when watching TV. However, this function is reserved for devices running Android 13 and above, and is only accessible with certain compatible applications.

The update also enables the WH-1000XM5 to support the LDAC codec along with multipoint functionality. Indeed, until now, the user had to make a choice: take advantage of the LDAC codec and its high transmission rate or take advantage of the multipoint connection allowing two devices to be connected simultaneously. These two functions can now be activated at the same time.

As a reminder, head movement tracking and the ability to take advantage of LDAC at the same time as the multipoint connection are also available with the WF-1000XM5 headphones.
